A box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers is the long-standing traditional gift to give a woman on a first date. You see it in every movie, a red heart-shaped box and six to twelve roses. Don’t get me wrong women love candy and chocolate so it could be the perfect gift. Just for fun let’s run through a few more options that may make you stand out and put a smile on her face.

Something special to her

Yes, this is a bit vague but if you had a conversation beforehand and you know she likes dancing then it would be a great idea to book a surprise salsa lesson with her. If she likes to travel maybe a special book about the location she is dying to go to or a travel item for the plane. Bonus tip: a great way to find out what she likes is to go on her social media profile and see what kind of posts she likes or what her hobbies are.

Tickets for a second date

If she has wanted to see a play or visit a museum show up with a set of tickets for your second date. She’ll be impressed you are thinking ahead and you remembered she wanted to go to a certain exhibit.

A Book

Bring her a copy of your favorite book and tell her what you love about it. This is a great way to break the ice and get the conversation started. First dates are awkward so this is an easy way to start off on the right foot. If books aren’t your thing then bring a movie you love to watch. Either of these will have her thinking of you each time she sees the book or movie.

A Handwritten Note

You’re going to have to trust me on this one. A simple handwritten note could be a simple gift she will appreciate for years. The trick to this being cute and not stalker-like is keeping things light and flirty. Don’t get mushy but let her know that you are excited to go on this date and a reason why you wanted to take her out tonight.

Helpful something on your date

If you plan on taking her outdoors bring a coffee or a hot chocolate for her to drink to stay warm, if you take her to a concert bring a fun light-up bracelet she can wear, if you take her wine tasting bring a bottle of ibuprofen with a ribbon tied around it. You can make this sweet, funny, or considerate and they will all be memorable.

Bottle of Wine

Get her a bottle of her favorite wine -a type of grape or region. This show you are paying attention. If you have noticed her at a party or seen her out before you could take note of what kind of wine she drinks.

Self Care Gifts

If she is busy and has no time for herself then maybe a massage, a facial, or even a mani/pedi. Women sometimes forget to give themselves the self-care they deserve, this could be something she would really love.

Pet Gifts

A lot of people are dog people – showing up with something for her pup would be so touching. You could get some treats or a new toy. This is sure to put a smile on her face.

There you have it. You now know all of my secrets about first-date gift-giving. I will also mention that a first-date gift is not a requirement and you don’t have to feel pressured to bring anything but it is a great way to show her that you are making an effort. Just pay attention to the small details, this will not only make you stand out but it will be heartfelt and will go a long way. Save this blog post to refer back to for your next date.
